She was struck silent by the selfless offer. “I have precious little time left and I would rather that time be productive than idle.” His words hit like a lash across her heart to be reminded of what fate awaited them both.
“Thane,” she began but was cut off by his palm across her lips.
“If you are going to protest my resolve might just weaken siha. For both our sake don’t. This is what I want to do for you. For a woman facing the impossible and who bears the weight of that task admirably.” His lips pressed against her forehead as she fought the tears wanting to fall. She agreed to not say anything. She leaned into his comforting embrace and the familiar feel of him before reality came crashing down.
