Summary
Today started out like any other, something simple, typical. The type of day where nothing could go wrong and it felt like their usual pattern.
As the Zaunite went to set it aside to return to his notes and continue the research from last night, he started to hear something. Footsteps. But that wasn’t the strange thing that made him perk up in his chair and look at the door.
No, there were two sets of footsteps. Jayce’s, he recognized those by heart from their time together. A little heavy, not used to stepping light like Viktor did to avoid making sounds in the streets and back alleys of Zaun. Even his footfalls had a consistent rhythm, one that Viktor found his mind humming along to every time that he heard it.
The second… that was strange. They were pitter patters, almost. Not Heimerdinger, or his strange little ball of fluff that was his pet. Four steps, did this thing have four feet? It sounded like small claws pawing against the floors of the academy halls. And if he focused enough, he could hear the sound of something metal jingling, paired with another sound that he barely recognised.

John Watson isn't an idiot - let's start there. His newly-finalised divorce has left him with no moustache, few acquaintances he can trust and a very solid resolution never to attend a wedding again, unless it just so happens to be his own.
But when the opportunity presents itself to accompany his best friend to a family destination wedding and get to witness a whole new, uncharted side of him, curiosity takes over. And if the price for this knowledge is pretending to be Sherlock's boyfriend for a day or two, well, so be it.
After all, John Watson isn’t an idiot, but he’s not exceptionally wise either.

A rewrite of series two episode two, the Hound of Baskerville, where both John and Sherlock discover things about themselves. Someone gets in the way, making the pair realise just how much they need eachother whilst solving perhaps the most puzzling case yet, with unthinkable things being uncovered.
