    Kaina was supposed to live the rest of her life in Tartarus. Rot in there, she supposed, and have the truth rot with her. But she didn’t. She was dragged out. Kaina was no longer a hero. She would never return to Japan’s ranks, never fight for a noble cause under a falsehood. She would never kill for the Hero Commission. She would never shoot her opponents down with the reward of news coverage, a paycheck, a public approval rating. Kaina would never be a hero again.

    But the boy said she was his favorite hero, anyway. The boy said she could just be his hero, instead. Please, he laughed. It’ll pass the time.

    Kaina didn’t argue.

    Mina and Midoriya had never really started off as friends. They'd always been acquaintances with passing interactions, having formed their own groups in class. The biggest connection they'd had, really, was the fact that Midoriya and Kirishima worked out together pretty often.

    However, when Midoriya offers to help Mina study after she finds herself stuck with academics, she begins to find out that there are quite a few ways to refer to her new friend.

    And soon, one of her close friends.

    And soon enough, one of her best friends.

    And soon enough after that?

    Well, maybe it's not just friends.

    In their last year at UA, Yaoyorozu finally gets a peek at what Midoriya writes in his notebooks, and finds herself fascinated. She quickly convinces him his thoughts are worth exploring further, and the two of them decide to work together to learn more about the quirks of their friends.

    But quirks aren’t just astounding abilities without context; they impress themselves on who they inhabit, shaping their lives in ways only their holders can understand. It is a lesson that Izuku and Momo will learn, over and over; but, just maybe, they’ll come out of it with a better understanding of the friends they care so deeply for, and each other.
