Summary
Affection rushes up his throat in a choking torrent. It feels like being pinned against the console of the Hail Mary all over again, disoriented and unable to breathe. It feels like digging his fingers into the blistered, weeping wound on his forearm the best friend he’s ever had left behind. It’s the leaden weight in his chest because for once he’s more scared for someone else than he is for himself. With the swell of emotion, comes clarity.

Summary
The terms Barish-Estranza gives the lost colony are simple. Unconditional surrender, sign indenture paperwork for every adult and child, or they will eliminate all dissidents on record using a Combat SecUnit, and the killing will continue until they get their way.
The people of Esperia have no idea what that is. Barish-Estranza has technology that they have never seen. But they know they have to save the children. They pack the colony's children onto their one functioning ship, the Horizon, along with teachers and a barely adequate crew, and send them toward the wormhole that may lead back to the world that the Esperian colonists originally came from.
Barish-Estranza doesn't want to admit it, but they're unexpectedly missing their best threat.
And, onboard the Horizon, a child tells his teacher that there's a mysterious person in the machine closet…

Summary
It seems like there should be a very neat line, at least for humans, between dead and not dead, but I’ve seen enough messy half-alive humans to know that there is no such clear distinction. I’ve seen bodies that were still breathing despite missing part of their heads, bodies that weren’t breathing despite their owners being fully conscious. I wouldn’t call either option alive. I wouldn’t call either option dead, either.
For a machine intelligence, the border is even blurrier. It's hard to say which side of it I will stand on when they're through with me.

Summary
This is Murderbot's first time leading an undercover operation with ART's crew. The goal: investigate ArguScylla, a company known for renting out used SecUnits. It should be a simple, in-and-out mission. Run around and steal proprietary data while Iris runs interference. But something is weird about ArguScylla's SecSys. Really, really weird
