Summary
Goro Akechi is seven when his reality is shattered by the suicide of his mother. He is twelve when he is fished out of foster care by the man he has resented for most of his life, his absentee sperm donor: Masayoshi Shido. Forced to awaken to the power of Persona by his abusive and power hungry sperm donor, Akechi's life takes a dark turn while under his custody. However, when a chance to escape presents itself, he manages to take it and not look back.
Fresh out of a Metaverse enforcer, Masayoshi Shido needs a new one. His search brings him to a small town called Inaba, site of the infamous ‘Inaba TV murders.’ Unfortunately, one Akira Kurusu, fated Trickster, crosses Shido’s path earlier than he should. As a result, he is thrust into the world of Persona with no guidance or hope.
How will Shido's two pawns react to each other when thrown into conflict? How will a version of Goro Akechi, driven by his desire to prevent others from being exploited in the same way he was, as well as the trappings of a revenge plot against Masayoshi Shido, choose to show society the justice of the Phantom Thieves?
The pieces are in position and the board is set. Now a question must needs be asked: shall we play a game?

I am so invested in the Goro-Akira dynamic. Agatha is definitely my favorite Persona OC ever, I love the childhood friend who disappeared one day dynamic she has with Goro. I need to know more about the timeline of her disappearance compared to when Goro joined Shido though.
MakoHaru is very sweet, I like MakoHaru passively, but in this version I love them. Makoto’s protectivness of Haru during the Kamoshida arc scraatches an itch in me that most Ann ships don’t, and this is as someone who likes some Ann ships.
Also love Goro “Number one Akira apologist/defender” Akechi
Also also thinking of how many times Akechi nearly got one or more of his friends/teammates killed because of his refusal to use Loki.
I am so anticipating if/when Goro and Akira are going to tell each other how they joined Shido in the first place. I think it could help with some of the guilt.
Ugh this fic is taking up too much space in my brain. Can’t enjoy anything else because it’s not this AU with this version of these characters.

Edit 2: I love this fic so much, but it’s so hard to reread because of the slowburn of Goro’s terrible mental state recovering. I persist though ❤️
I’m worried that Akechi is going to lose his autonomy through the change of heart. That it will be less like Futaba or Sae’s palace and more like the actually evil targets’ change of hearts are potrayed
so creepily in this fic that I can’t help but worry about him.But like seriously please let Goro’s palace be dealt with after Ishiki’s. I wonder if Akira will be there for it. I understand if the PT don’t trust him, knowing what he can do in there, but still. He cares about Goro too, and it’d be good for him to see he is capable of helping someone. I also wonder if Naoto or Kotone will be there.
Days later, Agatha and Goro’s childhood friendship is still making me insane. Wdym she made a promise to stay and then disappeared without a trace? Wdym Goro wouldn’t see her again nor get a single clue of what happened to her until 6 years later? What do you mean Goro completely forgot her and an explanation hasn’t been given yet? Was it supernatural or because of trauma? And damn no wonder Goro has trust and Abandonment issues, the two people he trusted and were the only ones who cared about him for 15 years ended up leaving.
Also I headcanon that Goro was jealous of Narukami for having access to the Velvet Room in 2011 when Goro needed their support the most then and didn’t have it. Once he started remembering and learned that of course.
Agatha really fought to change fate for Goro. And she suceeded. I’m not sure was how much of that was her influence making Goro a better person, and how much was Shido not only being the one to approach Akechi (meaning he cannot manipulate Akechi into thinking everything was his idea) and also doing it earlier (so Akechi has less time to become jaded) but also, part of the reason Akechi is less jaded is because of Agatha. Also Goro please remember how much Agatha loves you.
I’m going to run out of space on this bookmark haha.
Btw I’m also going insane in Goro basically asking Agatha to adopt him, and then her just disapearing forever. I bet that just destroyed him emotionally before the memories were repressed. No wonder he was desperate enouth to take Shido’s deal despite hating him.
