LOVED this story, especially the last line - I found myself just staring at its gentle, joyous perfection, with the goofiest smile on my face…. But, really, everything about this fic made me smile, or cringe in sympathy, or die a little on the inside, as I watched these two brilliant idjits *just* miss their chances to connect and communicate with each other, again, and again, and AGAIN….!

    Summary

“...the elders have ordered the child to be removed to the wet nurse. Madam Lan will be permitted to see him once a month once her confinement has ended.”

Lan Qiren considered this for a moment; the long years of watching his sister-in-law waste away, the grief Wangji and Xichen carried throughout their lives after her death, the pain their family had suffered through because of it.

And then, channelling his gremlin nephew-in-law who sat so close to the surface of his thoughts, Lan Qiren set his shoulders back and replied, “Over my dead fucking body.”

On the heels of a great tragedy, Lan Qiren finds himself sent back in time to his youth. He decides to save, in order, his sister-in-law, his best friend, his best friend’s husband, and the only sect leader who may have a chance of standing against Wen Ruohan.

WOW… This is SO good, I’m going to Bookmark NOW, before I’ve even finished reading it, or have had time to write a proper Comment or Bookmark Note about it! Absolutely *stunning* writing, and this AU’s Lan Qiren, filled with sorrow, regrets, and unbearable loss, then miraculously given a chance to HEAL his broken world, is one of the most compelling and inspiringly lovable characters I’ve encountered in MDZS fanfics. His shattered self fights back against tragedy with a single-minded ferocity that’s both strangely in-line with his Canon depiction, yet transcendent of the constraints Canonical Plot imposed on him. One of THE best “Fix-It” Time Travel stories I’ve ever read, and among the most satisfying - BRAVO!

    Summary

"The Prince allows Victor to turn him with the assurance of a man who is used to those same hands in the tenderest sense; Victor has one hand on his elbow and the other slung around behind him to hold his shoulder, under his armour, keeping him close in an almost embrace. The sharp wind blows the high tail of the Prince's hair against Victor's cheek, their steps are slow and synchronized.

"Have I told you today how lovely you look?"

Drawn into a conflict outside of his responsibility, Victor Nikiforov, the greatest general of the age, appears to have met his match in the shy Prince of Japan who surrenders on the fields of Goryeo.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Staggeringly beautiful. The tension and impending loss advance with the implacability of glaciers, heartbreak in slow motion, the opposing Generals driven by duty, honor and love down a path that only ends in tragedy. Then our expectations shatter in a breath...

This is an *extraordinary* piece of writing, both for the power of the emotions it evokes, and for the supple way it plays with time, dolphin-diving between past and present, then bursting into a dazzlingly hopeful future, in a way that feels viscerally *real and right*, like a perfect sunrise after nightmare... HOW?!? Shaking my head at this feat of storytelling legerdermain - in the words of the inimitable Adam Rippon, "I can't explain witchcraft."

Haunting, shining, soaring, and well worth recommending, and reading, again and again!

    Summary

There was no blood. No char. There was nothing to see except the strange softening of the Yiling Patriarch's mouth, as if just for a moment he was another person entirely.

"There is the mark of our bargain, and here is the challenge," said the Yiling Patriarch. "You may strike at me, exactly once, with your sword. I will not fight back; I will not resist you at all, Hanguang-jun." That silvery suggestiveness crept into his voice again. "And a year and a day from now, you will come to me and I will deliver exactly the same to you."

Lan Wangji heard his brother's voice raised in sharp and incomprehensible protest. His own heart was beating too loudly for him to hear anything else.
