Pretty much non-stop action from jump. Con: the beats where the emotional fallout is felt are brief (I suspect the final chapters will hold the bulk). Pro: some of the best written action sequences I’ve encountered in ST fandom imo. The use of claustrophobia/silence/light rings true to the aesthetics of the show (even has a dash of miracle macgyver science dreamt up by children to get out of a tight spot lol). And the action remains well orientated in space (never really found myself wondering where the monster was relative to the characters or room layout) without a lot of belabored descriptions. Steady drumbeat of suspense.

Summary
Of all the new jobs that Starcourt offered Hawkins, Robin figured this one had to be, by far, the shittiest.
Maybe she was biased, but it didn’t exactly help that her arms were sore from scooping overly frozen ice cream, and flipping off ungrateful customers. And, out of all of Hawkins, she ended up getting stuck with Nancy Wheeler, priss of all prisses.The sound of the bell being exploited breaks her free from her train of thoughts. Nancy’s obnoxious younger brother and his merry band of shitheads are standing behind the counter expectedly.

Summary
After the fall of Hawkins, Robin Buckley and Nancy Wheeler fall into a dangerous routine: late-night patrols, shared beds, lingering touches, and the kind of tension that stops being platonic long before either of them admits it.
It would be easier if there weren’t kisses. Easier if there weren’t lies. Easier if Robin didn’t have Vickie waiting for her while Nancy keeps ending up in her bed, under her hands, and far too deep under her skin.
But there’s Vickie. There’s guilt. There’s jealousy sharp enough to draw blood. And there’s the fact that Robin and Nancy seem utterly incapable of staying away from each other once the line between friendship and something far more physical starts to blur.

Lesbian angst the way god intended. With a lot of lingering glances, sighs, and attention to body language. Honestly the title is a bit too glib for the content and tone of this story. Could be renamed, Portrait of a Robin Self-Immolating.

On the first day, she wears a lovely dress — white with blue and red lines, because it looks like notebook paper — and a matching bow, and she has a very nice backpack that her mom put on credit at Melvald's, so Nancy is very careful to hang it safely on the hook in her cubby so it doesn't touch the ground.
A girl appears beside her, and she looks just as timid as Nancy feels — because Nancy's face is always a perfectly controlled thing, even at five years old.

You know I just realized. That when you search specifically for a fic for the 4th time to see if it is updated. You should probably bookmark… Anywho. More lesbian Nancy character study aaaangst. With a fairly stylized inner voice that I think grows to sound more like canon Nancy as we catch up to show plot. Puts a strong highlight on Nancy’s feelings as an older sibling.
