Summary
“What does your soulmark say, Merlin?” Arthur asks once, stung by the need to know, by the way her own mark itches on her thigh. Merlin pauses in the doorway, the dinner meal tray still in her arms.
“None of your business, prat,” Merlin says, nose turned up in exaggerated offense. Arthur doesn’t ask again. There’s nothing between them like what Morgana and Gwen have. Despite herself, it aches. But it doesn’t matter. Merlin doesn’t like Arthur.
Or, well: that’s what Arthur thought, anyway, until Merlin goes and tries to die for her.
Arthur's soulmark is written in the language of the old religion.

Summary
Morgause had clearly been hard at work, having put off their meetings for weeks until now. Morgana was nervous that her sister had given up on her, deemed her to be too much work to save and teach her magic, but if it meant her freedom could be imminent, she felt foolish for worrying so much on such small things.
"Time is of the essence and we must begin preparations as soon as possible," she smirked as she rounded a corner, the shadows concealing whatever she was doing, "so we must commence the spell with a vessel."
"I accept." Morgana proudly lifted her chin up at her sister, no fear, only for that defiance to turn to confusion as she looked at the... hm.
At the chicken Morgause held in her hands.
"This shall be the tether of this spell. Such arcane magics, hidden under the veneer of a simple creature."
"...What?"

Morgause decides to use a slightly less conspicuous vessel for the sleeping spell. This changes a few things.

“Why the hell not?”
Mordred grimaced, unsure of how to explain the nuances of the 21st century to a thousand year old warlock. “Arthur is probably some fuckboy business major who's going to call the cops when he sees you following him around. He’s not going to remember you like this. You’re gross and jaded and you make people uncomfortable. You’re not Merlin anymore, Emrys, you’re not even human.”
