    Caine's emotions exploded— Kinger never imagined that would be possible. The AI was programmed to mirror human emotion for authenticity, but to genuinely experience was not what was ever anticipated.

    Caine is hurting. Caine is angry. Caine is malfunctioning, and he is violently lashing out at everyone. Kinger is fast at work, battling against Caine's code to try to stop his turbulent rampage. Everyone is depending on him.

    Only, he had been discovered, and Caine doesn't understand. He doesn't understand. Why is his favorite human hurting him? He doesn't understand. He doesn't take his actions too kindly.

    "Sometimes…the hardest decisions we have to make…involve the people we love."

    For one, fleeting, beautiful moment, Caine feels powerful.

    He's large and angry and holding his disgusting, hateful humans down against the wall, and screaming at them to understand; to comprehend why they would torment him like this. He's in charge, and they're trembling under his fingers and, with the sickly joy that's filling his avatar, he's feeling something other than his own overwhelming failure of an existence for a hot burning moment.

    He shouldn't be feeling anything at all.

    But - the next moment - he's small, stuttering out the beginnings of an apology or a plea and they're looking up at him with confused terror and he's looking down at them with scared eyes and that slimy glee in his hitbox curdles to shame because he was broken.

    And then he's back in his box.
    His box that his programmers had locked him in years ago.

    What if deleting Caine didn't put him in the recycling bin, but instead his prison from before the circus?

    Throwing himself against the wall with brute force still wasn’t working. So Caine dug as further into it as he could, scratching and tearing through what felt like electric barbed wire against his fingers.

    No, it could not possibly be cruel, they were bringing him back from the dead, this was a kindness.

    This belief was eventually reinforced when it was time to bring Caine back. The process, surprisingly, was incredibly simple. The circus worked just like any other computer system, with deleted items just ending up in the recycle bin. It had luckily not been long enough for Caine to be properly deleted.
    It was just a matter of dragging his code out of there, making some minor modifications so he couldn't go on a rampage again, and spawning his model into the prepared room.

    There was no fuss, everything seemed to be running perfectly.

    No one considered that maybe that isolated room near the end of the hallway was just out of earshot.

    Aka, Caine gets brought back, but in a spare room, and ends up getting tortured by complete accident because no one realizes that might be a bad idea
