Summary
Shouko was meant to heal people. She was meant for it, everyone said, and she was taught how. She was taught everything she could ever need for fixing people, damaged, near-dead, hearts-of-gold sorcerers. They didn’t teach her about grief, so she didn’t grieve. They didn’t teach her about love, either—but she figured that one out on her own, without the bickering of Getou and Gojo next to her, without the ache in the divots of her spine when she dreamed about things that apathetic girls shouldn’t dream about. It wasn’t so bad, was it? Doing her job, dreaming on the side, and being what they needed her to be. It worked.

Summary
The summer after Suguru Getou left could be described in two words: excessive drinking. Satoru wasn’t drinking, to be clear, but Shouko certainly was. Satoru was picking fights with god. Picking fights with the higher-ups, with fate, and with himself—hence the rapid teleportation, extensive workload, and excessive texting from random places on Earth that Shouko had no intention of ever visiting. So, in simple yet crime-like fashion—as all jujutsu sorcerers understood—Shouko Ieiri was drinking herself sick, fuzzy, and to the closest thing to death as she could get.
Her chosen partner in crime to this deed was her girlfriend. Utahime liked alcohol enough to drink excessively—even if it was for a totally different reason than Suguru being gone. It gave her enough courage to think about marriage. It gave her the courage to ask.
(or: drink until you drop! in her case, she would never make it to the floor before she was dissecting yet another sorcerer’s corpse.)

Ed gets a better look, and sees a black ponytail and a sharp jaw, then looks away again, cheeks hot as he sits back down and starts hunting for another rock to throw. “Yeah,” he says. “Which you is that, exactly?”
“Don’t be a dick,” he answers, and sits down next to him, cross-legged and casual, starting to sift around in the sand for his own stone. Ed makes an educated guess.
“Ling?” he asks. It comes out quieter than he’d meant it, more hopeful. Ling smiles in that sun-bright way he has, and Ed’s heart stutters. Stupid, stupid.

Utahime had never truly dwelled on the fact that she had never kissed anyone. It felt like such a trivial matter compared to the constant life-or-death situations she and her peers were always being put in-- at least it felt that way until she decided to reveal this detail about herself to Shoko. And of all the ways that Utahime had expected Shoko to react, Shoko offering to be her first kiss was not one of them.
