Fenris didn't hate his magic, but it never seemed to help him in life. When it manifested, he still remained a slave. When Danarius 'gifted' him his lyrium markings, his magic only ever caused him pain. Then when he escaped and ran south, well his magic certainly didn't help him then either, all it did was put him into another cage. But if he can escape once, he can do it again but it may take some time and even some help.
