    Summary

Dean eases Baby down the frontage road, trying not to look in the rearview mirror as his home gets smaller and smaller behind him.

He’s done this a hundred times. He’s driven down this road in the soft morning light, heading out to some little town in some distant corner of the country. This is a job like any other.

“It’s not like we’re never coming back,” Cas says from the passenger seat.

Dean and Cas and the open road, to the tune of Led Zeppelin.

Just visible through a beam of dirty sunlight, two lovers lay on a rusted metal cot, pressed together on a worn mattress and buried beneath faded and moth-eaten quilts. One of them shifted and woke, sweeping soft eyes over the other, before drifting off again.

just a quick coda, but I like the semi-outsider POV and the story of the farmhouse and all the people who’ve walked through its door

    Summary

They're doing that thing again, where Cas is staring at Dean with the intensity of a dog trying to remind his owner that it's past dinner time. Dean's staring right back like the first one to blink is buying the next round. Sam's aware there's a conversation going on that he isn't privy to — and he's used to it, by this point — but it's still rude.

"So, as I was saying," Sam tries to interrupt the resounding silence, "if we can just figure out a — "

"Sure," Dean says, and Sam stutters to a halt, because sure what? "I mean, yeah. Yes. Dude, you don't even have to ask."

    THE APOLLO ICARUS METAPHOR

this author is a literary genius, end of story.

my comment on the final chapter:

    I. Have. So many thoughts.

I am going FERAL for the Icarus Apollo metaphor. Cuz usually the only part of Apollo that’s addressed is the sun part, but you fit in plague and prophecy and healing and light and burning divinity all at once and it made Erwin’s character so rich. Even though the story was from Levi’s POV Erwin’s characterization was intensely complex and vivid, and that’s not an easy feat to achieve.

And the ending???? Oh my god the ending. It was perfect. They’re safe. They’re finally, finally safe and Levi’s finally, finally welcoming that beautiful annihilation called Love (side note: I rly appreciate the realism in that he hasn’t managed to actually speak it yet—though we don’t really know what he might have said in the shower). This fic in general does an absolutely beautiful job of depicting the debilitating intensity of human emotion, those waves of undefinable, uncontrollable feeling that drown you, mentally and physically, render you completely helpless to their reign.

And I love their relationship so much. They’re endgame, you can’t tell me otherwise. There’s just so much security and trust—true trust that comes from them both knowing that their love could destroy them both, but placing it in the other’s hands anyway. They’re two haves of the same soul—literally with the blood transfusion (you popped off with the symbolism in this piece). The utter reverence and care and devotion they have for each other, it’s religious.

also I love the perpetuated dramatic irony that comes with Levi and Mikasa still not knowing they’re related even as the story ends.

and to wrap it up HANJI NUMBER ONE WINGMAN LETS GOOOOOOOO I LOVE THEM

    Summary

First, before anything, there was want.

In one version of this story, Dean Winchester hasn't stopped moving since the day his father died. He hunts across the country but always comes back to California with the half-hearted hope of visiting Sam at Stanford, and an endless, restless, ceaseless pull to the desert.

In one version of this story, Dean Winchester finds himself in the scorched heat of a Death Valley summer, on a hunt for a ghost. Or a purpose. Or an answer to the question that’s been tugging at his tendons for as long as he’s lived.

In one version of this story, all Dean Winchester has ever done is want, and all Castiel has ever done is wait.

this was a beautiful story with a beautiful setting, a beautiful mystery, a beautiful twist, and a beautiful happy ending

when I started it, I was struck with an eldritch unease, and while the feeling kept its eldritch quality, it became happiness and awe instead

there was something religious in the Destiel of this fic that reminded me of Vashwood’s dynamic
