Summary
Bruce has always wanted Jason to be an alpha. From the moment he presented as an alpha himself all those years ago, he's felt like he's the only one who has a hard time pretending to enjoy it. After all, most alphas must not want to be alphas anyways, because being an omega seems like the most wonderful thing in the world. If Jason were to rely on him to be an alpha, he thinks that he can finally begin to see it as a positive attribute.
He was under the impression that Jason wanted that too, but now it doesn't seem that way. Jason has been changing, and becoming less and less like the boy Bruce expected, and loved. He doesn't seem like he wants to be an alpha, and that hurts. Bruce isn't even thinking about VAD, until the test comes back for a likely genetic risk, and suddenly all of these symptoms make sense... right?
Sometimes the hardest people to show yourself to, are the ones that have buried their own selves so deep, that they no longer know who they are.

Summary
Damian hated his scent.
He hated his scent more than he had words for, and had ever since he had presented. Not because it was particularly offensive or anything; as a Beta, he had a light, clean, fresh scent, and Richard often told him it was soothing. But still, he hated it. Not for what it was, but because it was a glaring neon sign to everyone he interacted with displaying his personal business.
Because Damian was eleven. And everybody knew there was only one way a child presented before sixteen at the earliest. And no amount of goddamn scent blockers could ever give him back the lightly sweet milky scent of an unpresented pup.

Summary
Their existence is not defined by suffering, and Bruce tries to keep this in mind, but it is so hard when it feels like suffering is all that makes up this world sometimes.
It's hard to feel like one specific part of himself isn't about suffering. But at the very least, perhaps he can remind himself that it is not the climax of his pain. If the sum is greater than its parts, after all, then the parts must simply be that.
