   Summary

   “I can bet you won’t even be here in a year.”

   “Oh, can you?” Korn replies quickly, eyebrow cocked like a challenge. “It’s a deal, then.”

   There’s a pause in Wai’s exterior, but inside his head, it’s a battlefield. His natural response is to back away, threaten with a punch, and storm off. That’s what he’d usually do if Korn managed to get this close. But it’s been long enough since their usual turned into a memory, and he’s drunk enough to have an excuse as to why he’d try to hold onto this unusual instead.

   Summary

   Since then, Korn has done this. He would show up at the bar during Wai’s shift. He would sit at the bar counter, in the shadows. He would sip away at a few drinks, mostly non-alcoholic. Once in a while, when Wai had a minute free, he would ask him to come over and they would talk about their days. Or Pat and Pran. Or Ink and Pa. They would talk about anything but themselves. When Korn couldn’t make it, he would send Wai a text. Nothing sappy; they weren’t close enough for that. Maybe something like ‘Don’t be an asshole today’.
