Summary
Tracing the rim of his glass, Harumasa hummed softly, as if turning the words over rather than rejecting them outright. "You were always like that," he said almost absently. "Everything has to fit neatly inside a box for you, doesn't it?"
"If you have a point, make it."
Harumasa turned to look at him directly, resting his chin on his hand. "Then let's just say the 'why' is that I wanted to see you. Is that what you were hoping to hear?"
Severian felt his heart give a traitorous, heavy thud against his ribs, sudden and disorienting. He searched for the punchline immediately, observing the way the blue light caught the sides of Harumasa's face for any tell that would reduce the statement to a joke. But it never came; he looked completely serious.
Driven by a late-night message he assumed was a mistake, Severian ultimately decides to head to 404 Livehouse to see what Harumasa has to say.

Summary
It doesn't take long until a simple serving of food turns into a full-blown tug-of-war. Each time Seth piles a spoonful on their plates, Severian’s hand follows a heartbeat behind, sweeping the excess and returning it to the center of the table.
Wise looks down at his plate, piled high one moment and nearly bare the next, shifting three times in less than a minute. He hasn't managed a single bite. Every time he raises his fork, one brother intervenes, either piling on or whisking away the extras.
POV: You and your proxy sibling are invited by Seth to join the Lowell family dinner as beloved guests, only to watch it turn awkward the minute Severian and Seth duke it out and try to show each other up on who's the better host to Wise and Belle.

Summary
“Family like that keeps you steady,” Shiyuan says. “But it also means knowing when to keep things to yourself, and when it’s still worth taking the risk. If I had lost my sister… I also don’t know if I would have managed.”
The desk lamp’s light sharpens the line of Shiyuan’s jaw, highlighting the tension clenched there. Wise doesn’t know the details of Shiyuan’s nightmares, only that he’d lost his parents during the fall. But he understands the absolute, unquestioning loyalty in Shiyuan’s voice when he speaks of his sister. It resonates with something he knows all too well.
A restless night leads Wise to a chance encounter with Shiyuan, where an unexpected conversation forces them both to confront love and loss.

Summary
The real him. Isn’t he already showing it? It would have been simple to deny it, if not for the constant suffocating labels that define him.
Wise is a Proxy, Phaethon, the eldest brother, the provider, the owner of a video store, and the good friend. Every one of these titles comes with its own set of expectations. He feels compelled to shoulder each one, to live up to them, and to uphold them for the sake of Belle and himself. But now, beneath Harumasa’s unwavering gaze, all Wise wants is to strip away every single one of those defining roles and surrender to the raw, selfish desire building inside him. To take what is being offered and simply act on his own wants.
When was the last time he’s simply been just Wise? What is one selfish moment, just for a few hours, compared to the heavy weight of responsibilities he’s inevitably going to pick up again come morning?
On the night before departing to Waifei Peninsula, Wise finds Harumasa at his door and brings him upstairs to talk.

Summary
All Harumasa could do was stare, his eyes wide with surprise. Wise took note how the other’s breath hitched, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
He held his gaze, pushing aside the uncomfortable feeling of being so open. Wise had never shown anyone his ocular implants outside of the academy, but this felt important to do. “If anyone calls you a monster for something you can’t control, then what does that make me?”
The blue in Wise’s eyes faded, the familiar sea-green returning. “Harumasa, you didn’t ask to be sick. It's unfair; you shouldn't be judged because of it. No matter what anyone else might say, it doesn’t change who you are inside.” He placed his hand over Harumasa’s chest, feeling the steady beat beneath his palm. Human.
A story on Wise, and a boy with yellow eyes he met one summer eleven years ago.

Summary
“Cissia.” His voice feels hardly any different from how it usually does when he finds out she smashed another window. She’s already starting to sweat when he adds, “Why are you scared of me?”
The question itself is so ridiculous that not only does it take at least five seconds of total silence for her to process it—when she does process it, all she can come up with is that he must be mocking her.
Why is she scared of him? Why do birds fly? Why is water wet?
In all honesty, Cissia didn’t even think her boss actually cared about anything.

Summary
Lightkeepers were no stranger to mortal dangers.
For the small price of protecting the innocent villagers residing in Nod Krai, they would risk their own lives fighting back against the Wild Hunt.
And yet, it seemed as if fate had deemed Illuga’s suffering was enough, and blessed him with enough time to grow old in retirement. To grow old in accompanying a certain Lightkeeper that liked to feed strange things to the blue fire nestled in his lamp…and–
“What should I do, Young Master Illuga?” Rarely was Flins’ voice so subdued, void of his usual composure and lighthearted teasing. His eyes were inhumanly bright, and yet, all Illuga could see was the wet shimmer of tears from a being that was older than the biggest of trees scattered all over Nod Krai. “I seem to find myself rather unwilling to imagine that we would no longer have our morning tea by my lighthouse.”
“Oh, Sir Flins.” Illuga smiled, a weathered hand coming to cup this face that remained the same even after the years had gone by. “Sometimes, things just come to an end, that’s all.”
Or in which, Illuga grows old together with Flins.

Summary
Wise couldn't sleep. He couldn't think past that moment, that dreadful moment when the one thing that mattered most to him nearly slipped out of his hands. No amount of facts or statistics from Fairy could change that, so sometimes a physical reminder is necessary.
( the aftermath of belle almost being hit by a car, and wise's upset )

Summary
The 18th of July is an unremarkable date for the offices of Hollow Special Operations' Section Six. To Asaba Harumasa, it is the day before his birthday, a painful reminder that yet another year has slipped through his fingers. It's certainly not something he feels like celebrating. But a mission in the Port Elpis Hollow unexpectedly brings him face-to-face with his worst fears... and a fragile spark of hope.

Summary
When he was first appointed as the lead scientist in the Ether Aptitude Booster Medicine research, it wasn’t just a promotion.
It was an escape.
For a man like him, with a mind brimming with brilliance, the program offered sanctuary and purpose. His aim was righteous, or so he convinced himself: to craft a "miracle drug" that could save humanity from their hollow-infested, dying world.
But the truth of his work was far from noble. The experimentation was illegal, a clandestine operation funded by some power players who valued results over ethics. They sought someone with both the expertise and desperation to deliver, and he fit the role perfectly.
But then, little Harumasa entered his life.

Bookmarker's Notes
As usual this author never fails to deliver when it comes General Zenless Zone Zero fics. What really appeals to me is how this particular fic is written from the Master's POV. I find this quite uniquely interesting because it's a perspective that not a lot of people would consider writing for but it's a great character study for the reader to delve into his mind to fundamentally understand his guilt and why he did things the way he did. The Master's regret and attachment towards young Harumasa as the story progresses is very poignant that the ending leaves quite a bittersweet taste in your mouth. Not in a bad way, of course. But it gives you something to think about considering his dynamic with young Harumasa at that period of time.
