Summary
The first time Dr Michael Robinavitch encounters Detective Jack Abbot is on a Tuesday afternoon outside Central Seven. Jack has a black eye and tension in his shoulders from being on high alert.
It's not the last time they meet.
Jack continues to come into the ED with suspicious injuries, and as their friendship grows, Jack refuses to let Robby in and tell him what's really going on. Robby is convinced something bad is going to happen to the person he's started to fall for, and he feels powerless to stop it.

Summary
"You think Dr. Abbot is being inappropriate with Dr. Mohan?"
Santos' expression flickered. "Look, I know he's your—you know, your friend," she said in a way that implied a lot more than that.
Robby didn't engage with that side of it, simply inclining his head. "He is my friend. I've known him a long time. What you're describing would be out of character for him."
"Men always fucking say that," she snapped, a lifetime of frustration living there. "'He'd never do that; he's a family man. Goes to church on Sundays, gives to charity, pillar of the community.' But it's not like that. Abusers aren't obvious. They hide it. That's how they get in the door." She shook her head at him, like he should be smarter than this. "You're his boss. Of course you'd never see it. It would only come out with people who have less power than him."

Summary
"It's not about that," Robby insisted. Jack tilted his head, mouth forming a thin line as he stared into Robby's eyes with that unflinching focus. He didn't need to say "bullshit", Robby heard it loud and clear. "I just need a vacation," Robby repeated for, what, the tenth time - the word slurring a little with the whiskey.
The tension was thick and for a terrible moment Robby thought Jack might call him on this. Might make him admit that his heart had finally broken three months ago, in that long night after Pittfest when, drunk and in pieces, he'd called Jack and finally asked if he could ever have even more of him.
OR
On his sabbatical, Robby decides to ride Jack's hometown, Oceanside, California - where someone he meets someone who looks wildly familiar.
Starts post Pitt s2 and start of S1 Animal Kingdom - alternate universe where Jack is Pope's twin, not Julia (hence no "J").
