Fantastic as a trilogy, ends well even without the fourth installment. Just the correct amount of embarrassing “he doesn’t know that I know” humor so that it suits the plot but isn’t uncomfortable or ooc. Everyone has such rich backstories and personalities. Despite having read this before and remembering the major plot points, I thoroughly enjoyed a full re-read.

Summary
Phil doesn’t go into the cities anymore. Once had been enough, and he doesn’t have a death wish.
He chooses only to watch them in the distance, or pass by them from time to time as he walks. The buildings loom in the distance, their once-shining rooftops now overgrown and dull with no one to take care of them. If you get close enough, you smell the stench of rot and death. It’s a smell you can never get out of your nose, discovered one night after the initial wave where Phil tried desperately to scrub out his nose, sticking cloth and then even fingers as far up as he could to try and wash the smell out of his sinuses. It didn’t work, and the smell has stayed with him since. He tries to look past it, look past the cities, and continue walking forward. That’s what he attributes his survival to, really. The ability to look past everything, stare the dead in the eyes, and still walk on after he’s shot them in the head. They were people once, but thinking about it too much makes his hands start to shake so Phil looks past it and walks on.
(SBI zombie apocalypse AU. sort of phil-centric, but not entirely!)

Yes. Wilbur had to bite his tongue to keep the answer from spilling out of his mouth, because yes he wanted more. Of course he wanted more. He wanted to be more than the bastard prince. He wanted to be more than a mistake his mother made before she married Tommy’s father.
But that wasn’t the role he had been cast for in his life.
“It doesn’t matter,” Wilbur said instead. “When Tommy turns eighteen he’ll be crowned King, and I will be his advisor. He’ll be a good king, I’ll make sure of it.”
or, as the bastard prince of the planet of Eldingvegr, Wilbur has always known he was never meant for greatness. That was his younger brother's destiny. Wilbur's job was simply to try and make sure Tommy could fulfill that destiny.
That becomes decidedly more difficult when the brothers are betrayed, and are forced to flee their home planet. With the Essempi Empire being one of the largest imperial powers in the universe, the only place that can offer them refuge from Emperor Dream is Zephys IV—capital planet of the Antarctic Empire, ruled by the ruthless Emperor Philza.

Space politicssssssss
Insanely well written characters. Everyone felt super well rounded, and included interesting takes on c! versions that felt unique but still true to their sources. Fantastic worldbuilding too, without having drawling infodumps; cultural stuff was naturally written in, and background info had a good blend of real world, scifi basics, and original concepts that made it smooth to read. Overall just super well written plot arcs, even when the bulk of it wasn’t necessarily dramatic events, but instead tons of small bumps in a super tense situation.
