Adar looked him over slowly, eyes coming back to meet his, “Very well,” he said, he sounded disappointed.
“I will meet you there,” he confirmed, leaning in closer “With her head on a pike.”
Elrond could see it in his eyes. Adar meant it. He was going to kill her just to spite him. It would be a foolish waste of a valuable prisoner. But he would do it all the same. This couldn’t be allowed. He couldn’t just walk out of there knowing he’d doomed his friend. He wouldn’t.
“Please, Adar,” he said, “Is there nothing else I can offer you to spare her life at the least?”
The deep ocean eyes looked him over once more, down then up again. “Perhaps there is,” he said quietly.
