Summary
Shane works hard to learn Russian. Ilya might not survive.
He knows Shane wants to get it right, to be as perfect at Russian as he is at everything else. He had asked Ilya to correct his mistakes so he could learn, but Ilya hates seeing him be so tough on himself when he’s been doing so well. And, if he’s being honest, some part of him doesn’t want Shane to be perfect because this clumsy fundamental Russian sounds so much like love. Effort. Devotion. He loves Shane’s bad Russian. It’s very, very cute. So, sometimes, he lets things slide.
Also, he really can’t explain any of the rules.

Illya is skeptical. He runs the vacuum back and forth across the rug, growing more confident in his platforms as the ticking sounds of dirt being sucked up mix with the high pitched hum of the motor. If the vacuum is the only thing that gets turned on, at least the rug would be clean."

His arms are full of boxes and garment bags that obscure his vision enough that he can’t see the stunned looks on his partners faces. His ”I assume you missed me?” is only slightly muffled by his parcels.
“And where are you planning to put all of that?” Gaby fails to keep the amusement from her voice.
“That’s...a good question actually.” Solo puts his items down on the empty sofa and surveys the living area. “I’m sure there’s space in my room.”
“Our room,” Illya corrects without looking up from his work.

Yeah, maybe Yuna should have just responded to the frantic texts. But Shane never gave them any details about the people he was dating. This Lily seemed genuinely worried, and if a phone call would get her a better read on the girl, that would be a coincidence at best. Shane knew she preferred talking on the phone, and if she used her own phone, she’d avoid invading any more of his privacy.
She figured his current condition would be a higher priority to address than his mother calling the girl he was seeing. He’d be satisfied that his Lily would know how he was doing, and Yuna would be satisfied to connect with this girl who seemed to enchant his serious and stoic son. The phone rang twice before Yuna was sent to voicemail.
"Hi. This is Ilya. I will never listen to your voicemail."
Yuna may have miscalculated.

“Ilya,” he said, the name escaping like an exhale. He had so much to say. So many things that needed fixing. So many apologies he owed him.

“I’ll go.”
