She pulls into the back of an almost-empty parking lot and swaps her plain tank top for a strappy, glittery thing she borrowed from one of the older girls on the base. Her arm gets stuck and she has to take it off and start over, but once it’s on, she fixes her hair and reapplies her lip gloss in the rearview mirror. Because Lois Lane, sixteen and fearless, is going to the club.

She doesn't even know how to refer to Clark in her mind. In an easier world, he's her ex-boyfriend, but he was never her boyfriend. He's not her friend, because they haven't spoken in four years, but he's not her ex-friend either. There was no end point. Just a can on a string that Lois dropped her end of. She doesn't know what to call someone who you used to hook up with while he was in love with someone else, except a mistake.
lois leaves after the meteor shower. four years later, she comes back, and finds out that some things haven't changed. or, a fwb-to-strangers-to-friends-to-lovers au.

He’s not sure what to expect now that Lois is back in town. Technically, nothing happened between them, but he can’t forget how it almost did. He kissed her, almost, She told him she loved him, almost. They acknowledged there was something between them, almost. Then he blinked and Lois was in Star City and Lana was back in his bed.
And Lana is great, but she isn’t Lois. Clark doesn’t know quite when that started to matter so much.
Or, Lana doesn't leave Smallville at the end of Requiem. Lois comes back anyways.
