"There's no need to negotiate for your safety, Doctor Grace," Stratt says sternly. "I can assure you, after saving the world, you will be looked after."
"Um, no," he says, shaking his head. "I'm not negotiating for my safety." He steps aside. “I’m negotiating for theirs.”
They walk into the light of the open doorway; Simon, squinting hard against the vivid sun with his hand raised to shield his eyes and Rocky, who chirps a casual "Hello, humans!" with a wave.
There’s a gasp; someone takes a step backward; one of the military personnel raises their rifle slightly.
Grace doesn’t have eyes for them - he only looks at Stratt.
And he decides, then and there, to replace the image of Stratt’s face sending him to his death, full of remorse and sadness, with the one in front of him: utter, complete disbelief.

"Hey," Grace says. "Erid to Simon. Simon, do you copy?"
"Hm? Yeah, copy," He replies distractedly. "One part phosphorus for the watercress, needs- needs a splash of… magnesium…"
Warmth presses against his back. A hand neatly catches his pencil mid-air and twirls it away, then circles his wrist loosely. Another hand tugs on his hair gently but firmly, and Simon, caught off guard, lets it crane his neck backwards without protest.
"Si-mon," Grace sing-songs, staring down at him fondly. He presses a kiss to the bridge of his nose. "You have been in here for thirteen fucking ho-urs."

Varka doesn’t quite choke on his own saliva, but it’s a close thing. “Fifty what now?”
“Oh, don’t be like that,” Dori scolds with a shake of her head. “Anyone else would be asking for much more – it’s not every day you stumble upon a book this old and this useful too! A guide to courting for, ah, individuals specific to Nod-Krai and Snezhnaya? It’s practically a trove of information, Sir Varka! Really now, it’s only because you’re my most loyal, most esteemed, most valuable customer that I can afford naming such a low price.”
Or: Varka gets swindled into buying a Fae courting guide, written by a human for other humans. He's also forced to come to terms with his own feelings regarding a certain Lightkeeper (who might or might not be Fae). Shenanigans ensue as he attempts to follow this dubious yet somehow effective guide to the very end.
