Summary
Regulus has always known he's destined to drown. He feels it deep in his chest, past his rib cage, nestled somewhere behind his organs. He feels it in his arm when his mother squeezes it a little harder than a mother should. He felt it, the water rising in his throat, when his brother slipped out the window and into the night. He often wonders if it'd be easier to just let himself sink.

It can never be that simple though- the Black's expectations and dysfunction grasp onto the younger boy relentlessly, and the raging war outside the doors of Hogwarts moves closer to them every day.
Dealing with the hardships and traumas of their reality, the question remains: how far are they willing to go for one another?
Following the boys from their final years of Hogwarts into their roles during the First Wizarding War, this is a long fic exploring the depths of their devotion. The suspect is a man around five foot seven, possibly late twenties. Long, black hair, black clothes, wearing a black mask. Most importantly, he has a bold black star tattooed on the back of his hand. When Regulus hears, he has to excuse himself to sit on the toilet for a bit with his head between his knees, consciously breathing lest he fucking pass out.
This is the closest he’s been to Sirius in ten years.
In an attempt to find his long-lost brother, detective Regulus chases a string of gruesome murders in the area. Little does he know, nothing and nobody is as it seems, and he is closer than even he thought he was.

Remus felt light, lighter than air, stuck floating in his own bloodstream. It was like his soul wasn’t quite tethered to the earth but for his fingertips, where Sirius’s warmth seeped through his jacket into Remus’s hands.
He squeezed his eyes shut, the roaring of the bike and the wind in his ears so impossibly loud that for a moment he worried he’d never hear again. Maybe he never would.
