    Summary

Ghost, under threat of another psychological evaluation from both his CO and therapist, has been forced to partake in a penpal programme with another soldier in order to "practise empathy" and "re-establish human connection." He hates it until he doesn't.

MacTavish willingly volunteers for the SAS's new penpal programme because what the hell, it could be fun. And when his penpal ends up being adorably emotionally constipated, well, that certainly doesn't hurt.

    Summary

It had been four months since Soap had last heard or seen Ghost.
Seventeen weeks of begging and praying that he was still alive and breathing.
One hundred twenty-one days of living without being alive, of carrying guilt that was eating him alive.

Soap couldn't remember the last time he had caught some sleep without being woken up by terrors and nightmares. He had lost everything the day Makarov decided to take away the person Soap cared for the most. He lost count of how many times he had wished to be in Ghost's place instead. As he drowned in memories of the past, Soap's illusion of the perfect soldier life was crumbling down right in front of him, being on mandatory leave whilst his team tried everything to track down Ghost's position in the hope of bringing him back alive. No one knew whether he was still alive in captivity or had long since died. Soap felt his team was losing hope.

But giving up was no option for Soap, because giving up on Ghost meant giving up on what they had and leaving him to die. And dying was no option.
Little did he know that bringing Ghost home wouldn't mark the end of their nightmare, but only the beginning of its aftermath.

    Summary

"I don't want your fucking pity," Ghost spits.

"It's not pity, it's empathy," John growls, straightening up instinctively, his heart hammering in his chest at the familiar surge of anger flaring up. He won't give him the validation of lashing out in his face. He leans to the side and flicks the switch of the lamp next to the couch. Ghost hisses and squints his eyes when the sudden light hits his face unexpectedly.

"What do you want, then?", he continues with a controlled calm to his voice, "Changed your mind? I can help you building your connection with your pelt again, you know that."

Ghost stays silent, his eyes flaring with anger and frustration while he stares John down viciously. He hasn't left the room yet, though. John might still have an angle, then.

"We wouldn't do it too fast. We can stop anytime," John pleads, "You can trust me. It's all under your control, Simon."
