Her brow raised further and her easy smile dropped. “Why would we have any plans today?”
Steve’s heart sank into his stomach. He felt like throwing up. All these years, speculations, and cards from his father’s secretary, that was it. That was the official confirmation, that his parents really never cared to remember him. To remember the day he was born, celebrate the fact that he was here, that he was alive and standing in front of them, their son.
But when he’d pressed further, “It’s April 24th, Mom,” all he’d gotten was a scoff from his father.
“Oh, right. Your birthday.”
