He opens his hand, the grainy roughness of the joss sticks sitting in his palm unfurling to the cool morning air. It feels tender, somehow, like things blooming.
It feels damning, somehow, like Wukong knows it is.
There is a porcelain urn perched on the edge of a stone slab, incense burned to a whit laying at the bottom. The stone is aged and worn, green moss creeping up the sides like an old friend offering a passing greeting. Saying, hello, I am here.

It hits him, in a sudden moment of clarity tangled within the curls in Tsukishima’s hair and the glint of sunlight reflecting off black frames, that Tadashi doesn’t quite know who he is without his best friend. That he doesn’t know if his life would still be the same without Tsukishima, or if he’s doing it all out of some kind of sentimental attachment. The thought scares him, digs sharply into the edge of his flesh and drags its claws down the length of him.
