This wasn’t what they’d signed up for. This wasn’t a mission. It was a punishment. Outside, the war went on. Distant shouting. Sirens. Smoke. But it all felt like background noise now, muffled and far away. Inside this ruined shell of a room, it was just them. Two people stuck in a moment that should’ve never come. Two people who had already lost too much.
And they were both so tired.
