“How is this even allowed? I’m a prime suspect!”
“With a legal counsel, you’re permitted to use any means necessary to clear your name,” Alhaitham explained. “Or so the Matra guidebook claims. I’m sure that includes a formal investigation. It’s guaranteed. Tedious, maybe, but the court will allow it. With enough persuasion.”
“Then why bother?” Kaveh asked quietly. “If it’s so tedious, why bother doing this?”
Alhaitham blinked. “Apart from the fact that we’ve had sex before and I’m simply that nice?”
or, the one where Kaveh (investigator) becomes a murder suspect and Alhaitham (soon-to-be-Grand-Scribe) helps clear his name. Or tries to, at least. It’s… not exactly as smooth-going as Alhaitham initially hoped.
