Summary
Sometime in the future, the world is in shambles. Cities are so overpopulated that streets are filled with more tents than cars. World leaders have all but given up on trying to fix their economies. And people are dying at alarming rates due to the rising underground hitman industry.

He scrunched his nose, a small confused sniffle, and repeated the word to make sure. “Dad?”

Enjin was not, had never been, and would likely never be a dad - regardless of the fact that he legally had kids. Except .. it just so happened that when one of those kids lost himself to a headspace smaller than usual, Enjin sort of did become a dad. That was okay, he could be a dad sometimes. Though Alhaitham’s instinctive reaction was to push this inexplicably older version of Kaveh away and demand an explanation, something about the desperation in his grip held him hostage. He could feel the rapid rise and fall of Kaveh’s chest against his own, the quivers in his body from the leftover adrenaline of travelling through what had to be some sort of time portal.
He was still trying to make sense of the situation, pulse roaring in his ears, when Kaveh’s fingers began to shift, sliding down the length of his arm until he reached Alhaitham’s left hand.
Kaveh traced along the veins there, pausing - as if searching for something that wasn’t where it should be. Then his posture fell, softening with melancholy. “Oh,” he murmured, almost to himself. “I’m not back yet.”
Alhaitham stiffened. “What?”
“You’re not my Alhaitham,” Kaveh said with a quiet, somber sigh that wavered faintly at the end.

“There you go, being quiet again.” Kaveh laughs. It sounds tragic. When Alhaitham doesn’t respond, Kaveh hums as if in thought. “How about I guess? I feel like after all this time… I should be pretty good at reading your mind.”
Alhaitham folds his arms over his chest. The only light is the dull green of their visions and the vague, white moonlight hidden behind the clouds. None of it is enough to see Kaveh in detail, but he can sense that Kaveh has turned and is standing close to him.
“You’re currently thinking this is stupid, and that I’m being ridiculous.”
“Miraculous. A prognostication worthy of an oracle.”
“Shut up. I’m more interested in what’s behind that, though. The things you said when I couldn’t hear you. It was about me, wasn’t it?”
