Summary

In the game of baseball, there are no two positions quite so intrinsically linked with one another as the pitcher and catcher. Which is fitting in this case, since the lives of the current starting catcher and the star pitcher on this particular pro team have been just as intricately woven since they were kids playing together in Little League.

Mu Qing and Feng Xin have known each other since childhood, and could, at any point over the past decade and a half, been called any of the following: teammates, mutual acquaintances, friends, best friends, frenemies, friends with benefits. Whether they were glaring at or laughing with each other during any of those times is anyone's guess. Bickering or grinning, you just never know with them.

They've made some ill-advised decisions together, but they're still each other's constant, from the locker room to the bedroom to those sixty feet between the hill and home plate. And maybe they can find the courage to finally give this thing between them a real name…and a future.

The last time Shane will do that thing he does where he skips his fingertips over things like doorknobs and plumbing fixtures and light switches, things Ilya would never give a second glance to if Shane weren’t lingering and commenting on their quality and design and fuck. Ilya has a stack of fantasies about Shane in this space that he still wants to make good on.

He should spend extra time rolling out his quads and hips today, too. He’s going to need the stamina.]
