A boy had appeared out of thin air in the space opposite him, mirroring Tom’s position. He looked to be around Tom’s age, perhaps a bit younger, and Tom noticed that he was dressed in Hogwarts robes, but of a different cut—for one thing, he was missing the required vest and tie. He had messy black hair and handsome features, the pinnacle being a set of extraordinarily green eyes that peered at him in shock from behind round spectacles.
Tom Riddle's attempt to create his first Horcrux in June of 1943 goes awry. Rather than going into the diary as intended, his soul fragment is absorbed by a strange boy who appears out of thin air during a crucial part of the ritual. Now, Tom has a prisoner from 1996—a living Horcrux—to contend with, on top of making sure the school doesn't close early due to the basilisk attacks.
