Shin glares at him while slime-yellow goop slowly trickles into his eye, carrying with it a shard of egg shell that begs to be implanted into Lu’s nose as revenge. “It’s all their fault!”, he mutters, a phrase that is quickly becoming his mantra.
“So you putting in a cup of baking soda instead of flour was their fault? And you eating half the chocolate chips and Sakamoto getting pissed at you stealing even more from the store was their fault, too?”
“No, but everything else was! And I didn’t eat half of them, and we managed to get most of the soda out.”
“Sure, Shitty Esper.”

So one day, they made a hushed plan to sneak out, too stifled by their tiny bedroom to care about Roger’s wrath and determined to steal the last dregs of the summer afternoon. They ran and ran, to the city and away from it, finally stumbling upon the abandoned chapel.
(Something about the eerily ethereal ruin tugged at their chests; something about the emptiness that made it more of a home than their tiny room at Wammy's.)
Today, they follow the same routine, Mello reaching first and propping himself up the wall. The waning sunlight shone through the hollow where stained glass should’ve been, brickwork still intact despite having nothing to protect. The church reminds him of a skeleton, mere bones meant to protect a holy heart long rotten away. And yet it stands, still beautiful in its own worn-through melancholy, simply a symbol of sacrosanctity unupheld. It reminds Mello of his own rosary, the only thing he has left of his biological mother; a token of her so-called love before she abandoned him forever.
(Or died. Mello will never know; it’s the worst part of the knot lodged in his windpipe whenever he thinks about it.)

The points of his canines are imprinted in the hollow of Awsten’s neck, fated to bloom into bruises Awsten will never want to heal. The hand not teasing his cock through his boxers has him pinned to the wall, creasing the baggy shirt doomed to be discarded on the floor. Michael pulls away for a moment, admiring the way his bruised pulse skitters at the scrutiny and how he tries to hide his flushed face. As if all the shameless snark came away with the press of Michael’s teeth to his gulping throat.
He can’t help himself; he wraps his arms around Awsten and kisses him properly, fingers fighting their way down his pants again. He’s been waiting all evening, teasing him with little brushes and pats and whispers. Taking him apart when he’s already so worked up will be almost too easy; Michael may even go the extra mile and edge him for entertainment.
