Summary
A modern AU where Joyce and Hopper are getting married during Will's summer break of college freshman year. The Party decides to stay in the venue - a house in a huge estate that has a lake and forest - for the whole summer, instead of just coming for the week of the wedding.
Everyone hasn't been together in a year, and they're determined to make it the best summer ever.It's a shame that means Mike and Will actually have to talk about what happened the last time they saw each other- because once they do, it happens again.
OR: Will and Mike are stupid and obsessed with making out and acting like a couple while denying their feelings for each other.

“Yes,” Max replies without hesitation. “You’re unbearably lonely.”
Will drops his jaw, offended. Sure, he might not have the most entertaining love life, but he wouldn’t go that far. He’s happy where he is. Content. He doesn’t need a guy to fulfill him. “My loneliness is completely bearable.”

Will’s eyes flicked to Lucas. His eyebrows were high up on his forehead, eyes widened, and he shifted up a little straighter, like he was intrigued. Like he knew what was coming, and was bracing for it.
“And— and it’s like… shit, it’s like— kind of awful, y’know? Um. To figure out. The thing’s not awful. Well— maybe. Probably. Possibly? You guys might think so. My dad thinks so. I kind of think so? Uh. Well. Not as much. Not anymore?” His shuddering hand gestured outwards, pointing at nothing, a wide gesticulation of no substance or meaning beyond nervous habit. Mike sucked in another harsh breath. “And it’s like… this— this massive thing. Like, life-changing. It’s kind of re-contextualised my whole life, actually. Like I’ve suddenly switched D&D classes, or something.”

“Are you sure?” He presses, and it drives Will crazy.
“Yeah.” His voice comes out unsteady, shaken and cracking, but Mike only nods, and while casting him one last concerned glance, throws an arm around his shoulders, leading him over to a seat.
It- he drives Will crazy. He slips onto the terribly uncomfortable plastic chair and tugs off his coat, the thought echoing in his brain, eyes shifting from place to place. The table, Mike, the floor, Mike, his hands as they fiddle to unwrap his scarf, Mike as he huffs out a laugh and reaches to help him with the woolly accessory. Mike’s smiling face. Mike’s deep brown eyes. Mike, Mike, Mike.
December 15th, 1984. The Snowball. Will thinks that there's nothing worse that he could be doing tonight, and he'd rather shrivel up and die than stare at Mike dancing with Eleven for hours on end. Turns out he's the one dancing with Mike, and that school dances aren't so bad after all.
