She’s under Neji's command, which apparently means she’s under the Hyuuga’s command. The Hyuuga’s role is on the frontlines, but Neji must be special for a kid from the branch family, because they mostly send him and Sakura out after the big battles are done, to pick off the wounded, and burn bodies.
Sakura kind of wishes she had someone to keep her from the big fights, too. Her job is with Neji, taking back kekkei genkai and retrieving important people’s bodies, but she has other assignments, too. She’s given a dull kunai and told to go through the battlefield, dodging blows and jutsus from friend and foe, slashing at whatever isn’t wearing a Konoha headband.
(the third shinobi war doesn't end, dragging on for years. konoha is running out of troops, and unimportant children in the academy with even a modicum of talent are snatched up to the warfront. sakura, unfortunately, is one of them. so is neji.)

Kingdoms rise and fall for the want of a nail. Uchiha Madara desperately wants Konoha to be part of his World Omelet of Peace – and has to crack a few eggs to make it, like a six year old nail named Inuzuka Tsume. Shimura Danzo doesn’t want a kingdom of his own – he wants the village for which he sacrifices everything to thrive. Tsume just wants to be wanted, and finds herself collecting a kingdom of strays, from a newborn Kakashi abandoned at birth by his mother, to a naked 3 year old Naruto seeking refuge in Tsume’s dog kennels in the dead of winter, and a cranky old man named Danzo.
(Madara started it. Tsume regrets nothing, even if her taste is questionable. Danzo regrets himself into becoming a decent human being. Well, somewhat decent.)

She found herself crouched over the toilet, with Himawari kneeled behind her, her little face pressed into Hinata’s back as she held back her hair. Boruto was here, there, everywhere—he was grabbing Hinata a glass of water while also putting away the leftovers and he pulled Hinata’s hair into a ponytail to properly keep it away from her mouth and pressed a kiss to her head while he did and then he was off to grab the vacuum or maybe to dust, proclaiming that he would take care of the household chores all the while.

The broth makes a soft bubbling noise as it starts to simmer and Iruka startles in his seat, staring at the saucepan with a terror that doesn’t feel as disproportionate as he knows it should.
He breathes a sigh after a moment. The bubbling starts to sound more calming as he listens, less like a crackling jutsu and more like a warm fireplace, and Iruka scoops up half his mushrooms in both hands, ready to pour them into the broth.
Maybe, he thinks briefly, maybe this will turn out okay.
