Summary
“Where the hell have you been!?” Inko Midoriya’s voice screeched from down the hall. Izuku had just closed the door behind himself; he hadn’t even taken off his shoes yet. “Answer me, child!”
After he turned four, his parents never used his name anymore. He was ‘child’ or ‘boy’, never Izuku. It was but one more thing Izuku didn’t understand. He knew he had to answer when given a direct order, but it was so hard to force his throat to unclench so he could speak.
“I’m… sorry, Okaasan. The teacher requested help cleaning up after school.” He’d learned to lie at a very young age. If he told her he was walking slowly, she’d make him hurt more. It was easier to tell her something he made up in his head, and hope she didn’t try to verify the information he gave her.
Regardless of the lie, Inko walked over and laid a vicious slap across Izuku’s cheek. He barely flinched, keeping his eyes on the ground in between them.

Summary
Izuku Midoriya is a rising star in the engineering world. He's been sent (with his adopted sister Eri) to the USJ Nishimura station that orbits planet XGH-532 in the Andromeda Galaxy. The Commission has sent him to keep the station functional and alive for at least 10-15 years until it can be decommissioned.
The problem? The Central Core Engine is on its last legs, and the Commission refuses to pay for a new one.
The solution? Find a scrap one in the sector.
Will there be risks? Yes. Will there be problems? Of course.
But Izuku is determined to save the crew and residents aboard the station, and perhaps reconnect with his childhood friend and crush along the way.

He heard the crunch of bone splintering on asphalt before mentally registering he’d reached the ground; everything went black.

Actually, screw nervous, he was frayed. Every nerve ending in his body was on fire. He shouldn’t be this nervous, but he knew that all of the students would have questions for him. Nedzu had kept him busy on Saturday and on Sunday he crashed so hard after another quirk experiment that he slept the whole day and night. Shouta had to force him out of bed this morning against his will.

Every head in the bar turned at the sound of a knock on the door and a sudden announcement of pizza. Izuku groaned. Fuck. The police were here. Great.
“Did you seriously not check him for trackers or a phone?!” Izuku shoved Shigaraki away. The villain stumbled back as the room exploded.

Izuku dragged himself to his desk, tore it apart until he found the paint set his mother had bought him to shut him up on his last birthday. He found an old canvas in the corner and wiped the dust off. He turned the light on, and he put brush to canvas, and he let that pain flow into the colors. Izuku let the ache in his bones, the searing red coating his throat all dribble across the canvas like the blood that he continued to cough up, splattering his desk.
Minutes or hours later, it was dark outside his window and the glow of his desk lamp was the only light in the whole apartment. He stood up, covered in red and green, black and white. He’d sobbed the pain and emotion from his body but not through tears. His fingers were coated in paint and he felt…better.

OR: Izuku finally gives up on being a hero, and accepts that he's never felt as free as when he paints. So he decides to become an artist and put his past pain to canvas for the word to see.

Somewhere deep in the forest, a bright eyed, green haired boy curled up at the base of an alder tree. His eyes closed as moss quickly climbed up his legs and arms. Grass seeded itself over his hair and the roots of the tree encircled him to keep him safe. His body vanished from view of all but the sun that would shine on his resting form between the soft moss and grass that now coated his skin. The trees watched, and waited, they would teach him their ways. They would teach this young sapling so that he would find his place among the forest.

When he reached the door, he stopped, frozen. His breath came in rapid huffs, panic settling into his bones. He needed a weapon, he needed a weapon right now. The door was the only thing keeping them all safe and it wouldn’t for long. Hitoshi was frozen behind him but they were both sharing the same thought. Izuku opened himself up to his boyfriend, letting him feel what Izuku felt.
Hitoshi stumbled back.
“No…” He gasped. “No, not here. Izuku-”
Izuku’s right eye twitched. “GET DOWN!”
The room burst into action. Hero students snapped to attention, more than a few of them obeying Izuku’s order without question. The door shattered into several pieces, a dark shadow dove over Izuku’s frame and into the center of the room.

Izuku sighed, and then realized he produced bubbles when he did that. The discovery made him giggle. Katsuki must have glared at him despite being half slumped in the water.
“Sorry. Bubbles.”
“Bubbles?” Katsuki asked in an annoyed tone.
“Yeah…uhh - I sighed and… and it… just, just look.” He did it again.
Katsuki stared at him for a moment. So, Izuku sighed again, but this time he managed to force the bubbled from his neck gills only. It tickled, which triggered another round of giggles.
“Oh my god, you’re actually a fucking idiot.”

Izuku kissed his fingers and placed a hand over the picture of his mother on the mirror. She was laughing in the photo. It had been her birthday, the cake was in front of her with half the candles blown out. That was mere days before she got sick. She died a few weeks after that. Her death was two months ago, and not yet formally announced to the wider community. It was known among the Evadoris Flight, but until Izuku was formally crowned, her public death announcement was put on hold. The coronation was in two days. He’d have to announce it during the council meeting, unfortunately.
“I miss you, Queen Mother.”

Izuku stared down at the candle in his hand. The wax was melting around the base and warming his hand through the paper cover. It might not be burning, but he wished it was. He didn’t want to be here. Actually, that was a lie, he wanted to be here but he wished this was a regular monthly meeting instead of a vigil. This was the third vigil he’d been to this year, and it was only February.
Last night, a six year old girl named Asami Sato took her life by swallowing a bottle of her mother’s pills. She did this only two hours after her own mother told her she should never have been born.
Asami Sato was born quirkless. She was six, and had not developed a quirk at four like the majority of the population.
Now, Asami Sato was an Orchid. A beautiful, fleeting memory.

His second client, Nabi, was host to the Sludge Villain that had once attacked Izuku and Katsuki in their last year of middle school. That’s who he was going to see today, and hopefully Nabi was home. Izuku really needed more than just a damn sandwich.
“Ah - Emerald, what a surprise.”
They knew his real name, but he supposed they got off on calling him something else.
“Are you in need of funds, or did you miss me?” The voice was mixed, two voices crashing together. They were both speaking. Izuku was used to telling them apart.
“Need cash. More than usual.”
“And are you willing to work for it?” That was Sludge.
“Always.” Izuku flicked his cigarette into the street before shouldering past Nabi.

OR: Izuku is an informant in the underground, forced to do anything to survive, including selling his body and his analysis skills. A wake up call brings him back to the hero world, but the underground reuses to let Izuku go.
