Zam sat alone at a corner table, tracing patterns in spilled water with one finger. The overhead lights flickered, casting shadows that made everything look worse than it already was.
She drew another circle in the water. Watched it break apart. Drew it again. A circle. A square. A faint outline of Pangi. Oh fuck, he missed Pangi.
The doors slammed open.
Zam didn't need to look up to know who it was. She could feel the shift in the air, that electric wrongness that followed Wemmbu everywhere now. Like static before lightning. Like the moment before a storm breaks and everything goes to hell.
Her finger stilled on the table.
"We need to talk."
Zam kept drawing shapes in the water. "Don't think we do."

Wemmbu perched at the table, sitting on the edge of the chair like he might need to bolt at any second. His tail curled around the chair leg. He watched as Egg moved around the kitchen, his movements practiced and easy. Those wings shifted constantly, feathers rustling with each motion, and Wemmbu couldn't stop staring at the way they framed his head like a halo. Or a crown. Or something.
The hidden jaws behind Egg's central eye-like marking clicked softly as he worked—the sound of eating, maybe, or just existing—and though Wemmbu couldn't see them clearly, he could hear them. It should have been unsettling. Everything about Egg should have been unsettling.
But it wasn't.

Wemmbu sat cross-legged on the floor of his base, both maces laid out in front of him. He dipped the cloth into the bucket of water, wringing it out before starting on Crucible's handle. The metal was still warm from yesterday's fighting, and he could feel the familiar weight of her presence even before she manifested.
"You missed a spot," Crucible said, her form shimmering into view on his right shoulder. She pointed at a dried bloodstain near her base. "Right there."
"I can see it," Wemmbu muttered, scrubbing harder. His tail swished behind him in irritation.
"Could've fooled me," Gambit's voice cut in from his left shoulder, arms crossed. "Thought you were just smearing it around for fun."
Wemmbu's horns twitched as he suppressed a groan. "I'm doing my best here."
"Your best is shit," Gambit said cheerfully.

Flame slipped out of bed, bare feet silent against the cool floor. The flames at its tip dimmed to barely a glow. He crept down the hallway, one hand trailing along the wall, the other ready to summon fire if needed.
The kitchen was dark except for the moonlight streaming through the window. And there, silhouetted on the counter, was a cat.
Not just any cat—this one looked rough. Its fur was matted with dirt and mud, clumped in places like it hadn't seen a proper grooming in weeks. It was small, ribs visible even from where Flame stood, and it was currently nose-deep in the bread he'd left out earlier. The cat's ears were distinctive—curled back in that unique way that made them look almost elegant despite the creature's current disheveled state. Its tail was strange too, twisted and spiked at the end in a way that seemed almost unnatural.
Flame took a step forward, floorboard creaking under his weight.
The cat's head whipped around, and Flame caught a glimpse of purple eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness. They locked gazes for exactly half a second.
Then the cat bolted.

"The hell is that?" Wemmbu started forward, but Minute moved to block him, one hand raised.
"Look, don't freak out—"
Wemmbu pushed past him, demon claws instinctively sliding out an inch before he retracted them. He saw a slumped over Flamefrags on the top step of the staircase leading down to the rooms below.
The blaze hybrid looked absolutely miserable. His usual fiery aura was dim, barely flickering like a candle about to go out. His skin had a grayish pallor that didn't belong on someone born from the Nether, all ashy and wrong. He was wrapped in what looked like Minute's spare cloak—a black one he kept for colder days—and he was shivering despite the fabric.
"You've gotta be kidding me." Wemmbu spun around to face Minute, his own demonic energy crackling slightly at his fingertips from sheer irritation. "Why is he here?"
