Now between scheming to create a better future, lying about their identities, and coping with the knowledge neither really falls neatly into the definition of human anymore, they also have to come to grips with their feelings for one another while finding their place in the past.

The woods were so quiet–dead quiet, eerily quiet. No owl, no deer, no coyote, no fox, not even a single squirrel or chipmunk or chickadee. There were tracks, though–fox tracks that as soon as they both noticed, they dodged so as not to ruin them, like the fox would need to retrace his steps for some reason.
That wasn’t the sign Hawk was looking for. He was looking for the visual affirmation of something, good or bad, right or wrong, in the fauna of the woods, but there was none.
But that coyote on the edge of the river returned to his mind–the trickster. That could have been a sign, one Hawk didn’t even know he’d needed or had to look out for until now.
