Summary
It isn’t that Jonathan visiting Steve's place of work is that strange. Jonathan comes by Family Video a lot. Not to visit Steve, obviously, but to check out some movies, usually with his brother in tow. During Jonathan's visits, he and Steve usually exchange small talk for a few minutes while avoiding mentioning Nancy at all costs, before Jonathan leaves with his movies and Steve gets back to work.
What is strange is that today, Jonathan walks in wearing a very familiar yellow sweater. One Steve recognizes only because he’s seen the exact same one — in his own closet.
Or: Steve is dating Nancy, Jonathan is dating Nancy, and Nancy's habit of borrowing her boyfriends' clothes sometimes makes things complicated.

Summary
Having lived his entire life in a small town obsessed with Christmas, Jonathan has grown to resent the holiday. It doesn't help that the influx of visiting tourists staying at the Byers Bed & Breakfast for the season makes it their busiest time of year. When Nancy Wheeler arrives feeling disappointed her boyfriend is stuck in New York for their vacation, Jonathan offers to keep her company while she does all the touristy stuff. It's only supposed to be a friendly favor, but the more time they spend together, the easier it is for Jonathan to fall for her. Is it so crazy to think Nancy would be happier with him than she is with her asshole big-city boyfriend who couldn't be bothered to spend Christmas with his girlfriend?
But then Steve Harrington finally shows up, and Jonathan realizes he might've been wrong. Not only does Steve not seem like the asshole Jonathan thought he was, but he and Nancy actually look happy together. Obviously, it's time for Jonathan to face the fact that his feelings are unrequited and move on.
It'd be easier to do, probably, if Steve and Nancy would stop inviting Jonathan along on their dates.

Eddie goddamn Munson, holding his hands up in a fake surrender as if to not spook Steve. "You alright man?" Eddie looked concerned, he was standing just under the lamppost outside, the light lit up his face and he looked- really pretty. Steve didn't know why he had that thought. He bit his bottom lip and looked away, focusing his gaze on the ground. "Yeah, m'fine." He slurred, shrugging.
OR,
Steve and Eddie meet/talk for the first time after the stancy breakup, but plot twist- Steve is gay and never loved Nancy, (He just convinced himself he did) he's really been pining after Eddie for awhile without even realizing it.
