[ orcs weren't common in the area surrounding Erebor. once in a few moons a hunter or scout would run into a stray or two, but that was considered exceptional poor luck, even if the creatures were no challenge at all to anyone adept enough in battle. they were a nuisance, irksome, they could even give an unsuspecting dwarf a bit of an initial scare, but they were generally considered an inconvenience - one had to have a particularly rotten day to encounter, too.
what did it say of his and Dwalin's luck that they managed to encounter a pack of five - accompanied by a warg, to make matters worse? ]
Fíli gets injured in a run-in with a pack of orcs during a hunting trip. luckily, he has Dwalin there to take care of him.

Summary
The sound of fighting drew him closer. He grunted silently and then slipped without a sound to the orcs advancing on the two dwarfs, one clutching at his shoulder. Bilbo slid forward and then with one swoop, sliced the orcs knees from beneath them. He raised his sword and drew it sharply across the orc’s heads, severing them. The bodies toppled to the ground.
“What in Mahal’s name …?” The taller dwarf abruptly stopped as Bilbo lifted his gaze, pulling out a dagger. It was discharged and flew into the gap between the dwarf’s head, hitting the last orc that had snuck up on them. The two turned, eyes widened to saucers.
“Hello.” Bilbo greeted warmly. “I assume the two dwarflings that smacked into me on the road were your nephews?” Bilbo asked as he smoothly threw another knife, kicking upwards. The orc flew through the air and hit a tree with a crack. A dagger lodged him into it by the throat. The majestic looking dwarf nodded and swallowed heavily as Bilbo dispatched the last orc. “Oh, wonderful. I sent them ahead to get some other hobbits to lead them to my home when they told me that you two were left behind. They should hopefully be sat before a fire by now, getting mother henned over by my aunt.”

The Battle was over, the orcs were defeated, and he had survived... yet Bilbo just felt numb. He was exhausted, more so perhaps than ever before, but after everything that had happened, after everything he had seen... he knew sleep would not come to him that night. Not that he could even think of trying until he knew the fates of his three wounded friends; Fili, Kili and Thorin.
My take on the events following the Battle of the Five Armies, except Thorin, Fili and Kili survive their wounds on the battlefield and are taken to the healing tents in the Dwarven camp.

Taking place just after the dwarves escape the Elven kings dungeons by barrels (before they meet Bard to continue on to Laketown) Thorin and his company are ambushed by a group of traders who decide the dwarves might actually be of some value.
Note: This takes elements of the hobbit book and movie, pretty much meaning the barrels have lids on them, the dwarves know about the ring and Kili does not get shot BUT the dwarves have their personalities from the films.

After escaping their captivity in the mountain, the Dwarves bunker down in an abandoned farmhouse while Kili heals.
While his body is healing, Kili struggles to accept the news that his brother really was dead. Needing air and going against Thorin's rules to stay in bed, Kili sneaks out one night for some air where he discovers his brother is actually alive.
Unfortunately Kili's brotherly reunion is not what he had expected as Fili can't even remember who he is. To make matters worse, the Dwarves quickly learn that the farmhouse might not be as safe as they had thought it to be.
