Summary
Bruises weren't beautiful. Especially not when they decorated tan skin, when ribs were painted with a swirl of purple and blue and Otabek had to learn to get used to them, because there were always more to follow. He didn't know why his parents hated him so. He didn't know what he had done to deserve the beatings and headaches and aching limbs.
But he did know one thing: the Hero of Kazakhstan was breaking.

“No.” Yuri cut in, teeth grinding a bit. “I don’t feel very good about today. Something feels off. Please be careful at practice, Beka.” He reached up, dragging his slender fingers through the messy mop of black locks on top of Otabek’s head as he spoke.
“Don’t worry.” He lowered himself down to catch Yuri’s lips with his own. “I’m always careful.”
