Dougal arched a brow, his gaze darkening. “Oh, kidnapped?” he scoffed. “I saved ye. Without me, ye’d be dead, or worse. Show a little gratitude, lass.”
“Gratitude?” Leah shot back, her voice rising. “You think dragging me off to god-knows-where and treating me like a criminal is saving me? Let’s call it what it is – abduction.”
An extremely slow-burn (no smut until Chapter 40), self-indulgent, (eventual) romance between a 21st-century historian and an 18th-century war chieftain.
There will be dubious consent, but no outright non-con. There will be some sexual harassment and threat (not from Dougal). There will be one scene of domestic violence and a lot of fallout from it. There will be 18th-century assumptions around gender and power. Some things will be handled very accurately, some things will fall under dramatic license, and some things I just don’t want to deal with at all, so I’m ignoring them. Updates on Sundays.

1758- The Frasers are a respected family in Edinburgh, where Jamie Fraser, his wife Claire, and their children, Brianna and William, divide their time between running a successful printshop, and maintaining Jamie’s Highland estate, Broch Tuarach. Materially successful and of strong moral character, he is the model of benevolent patriarchal authority.
But, looking deeper, one can see the weight of responsibility and provision inherent to such a role. To lead is to make decisions, and sometimes, to be the one dispensing justice. Living in a world of heirarchy and moral order, Jamie strives to balance his duties against his own human weaknesses, and keep the ties of kinship and family strong.
(I don’t usually do AU/Canon divergence, but keeping Jamie and Claire together and having them raise their children in a cute little family unit, while also setting up a framework for future dfic chapters featuring some of my favorite characters that could not happen within the parameters of canon was an idea that was probably bound to happen sooner or later!)

This fic came about after I decided to rewatch one of my favorite movies, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, based on the book with the same name. I noticed a lot of similarities between the two main characters and JC, so I decided to give it a shot. It's set after WWII, some things are similar to the og story, but I've mostly changed it to serve Jamie and Claire. For this story, the main setting is not the Isle of Guernsey but the Isle of Skye, nor is there a book club or is Claire an author. If you're expecting a play by play of the movie or book, I'm afraid this fic won't be that. Still, I hope you enjoy it :) The chapter count is set at 10 for now, and I'm planning for it to stay that way but I'll update it if anything changes.
