I chose the guest list quite carefully, you see. Trust is such a fickle beast, isn’t it? Fragile. Brittle. So easily broken. Lies, betrayals, whispers in the dark... They poison the soul just as surely as toxins in the veins. And speaking of poison, someone else is about to die.”
As if on cue, a strangled gasp sounds from across the room, opposite of where the first victim fell. This time, Chloe can see the man, his eyes wide and shocked as he crumples to the ground. Those around him quickly back away as if he’s tainted. The man is choking, his body convulsing—and then he goes still.
Chloe receives a mysterious invitation to a masquerade party from a suspect in an on-going case. Since she and Lucifer aren't exactly on speaking terms, she's on her own. But when she arrives, she bumps into her (maybe?) partner, and they realize the party is much more than it seems. And the host has a few surprises for his guests.
