Summary
Robert has always been alone, since the day his papa killed his dad, making him lose both his parents all in one night. Since the day he had been forced to take the mantle of Mecha Man at the age of 15, to keep the family legacy going. Force to keep moving, never staying in one place to avoid being kidnapped by his papa who wants him and the Astral Pulse.
But now both the Mecha suit is destroyed and the Astral Pulse is missing. Luckily for Robert, SDN had promise to rebuild it to the best of their abilities in return of him dispatching for a superhero team. Unfortunately, the team he has been assigned to is the Z-Team, ex-villains trying to become heroes. They are also a bunch of assholes who not only make the job much harder than it should be but make it their job to drag him out of his goal of only being Mecha Man and teaching him to be Robert. Especially Sonar, who slowly finds himself wanting to have the brown eye, freckle face hero by his side forever and to teach him that he doesn't need to destroy himself to gain the approval of a dead man who never loved him.

Robert felt Beef's weight in his lap, warm and safe. When he opened his eyes, Chase was there, only something was wrong. Chase's face grew more distressed when he saw that Robert had woken up.
"Kid, I... Fuck, you almost died there."
There was something Chase still hadn't told him, but he thought he'd notice soon. Something felt wrong with his body.

The Z team bands together to protect themselves and each other, and figure out a solution to this growing problem. Robert isn't done being a hero, and he'll do everything it takes to protect those closest to him.

Robert had an ‘X’ crossed over his heart like someone had taken a knife to it and unfolded the skin out like the petals of a flower to drive their fingers in between the gaps of his ribcage.
He was thinner than Sonar had initially guessed from looking at the way his uniform hung from his body. Rail thin and gangly in all the wrong places. He had muscle, of course, more than Sonar had expected to find, but no part of him looked healthy.

After working at the SDN for months now, everyone on the Z-Team has noticed a slight change within their dispatcher. His voice wasn't as hollow anymore and he seemed to have more life in his eyes. He actually engaged in their silly banter and seemed to be more open with the idea of the team becoming a family. However, the Z-Team wouldn't be the Z-Team without making a few bets.

Or Robert and Sonar are dating. They have been dating for a while now, and somehow, they've been able to keep it a secret from the rest of the team. However, with their relationship getting stronger and stronger, it's about time they start taking some big steps. HELLO it has been a huge long while since the last time I've written anything on here, mostly because I've been busy, but also just... idk I get kind of self conscious about my writing on occasion. So this time, I'm just writing for me. I wanna have fun.
This fanfic is really just me exploring the characters' relationships with each other. I'm making their dialogue and their actions as genuinely accurate to the characters as I can, & as I personally believe they'd be, depending on the scenarios. I'm also literally exploring EVERY character. Like, even the guy with super hearing. I love all the characters of this series and everyone will be getting some screen time on here.
Again I'm mainly just making this for myself, I just wanna have fun, so this fic is probably super hyper-specific—but you know what? We need more of that in the world. Not enough people write about really really niche or specific things regarding the reader as a character, everyone's too scared cause they wanna keep stuff vague to appeal to a wider audience. Fuck a wider audience, I want you. The ftm guy with trichotillomania and OCD and a horrible relationship with his mother. This one goes out to you.
