Zhu Hong glares down at the workbook in front of her, trying to untangle the equation on the page through sheer force of will alone. It is raining today, so the light shining through the glass doors of her father's apothecary is grey and feeble. The glare of the fluorescent lights inside are giving her a headache — or maybe that's just the homework.
Why do humans have to learn these stupid things? Back in the Snake Tribe lands, they were taught useful things, like how to identify and grow medicinal plants, how to fight off vengeful ghosts, and of course, cultivation. What are math equations supposed to do for them, anyway? It's not like you can eat them or use them to reach a higher plane of existence.

Summary
What if things didn't quite go the way it originally did? What if Shen Wei wasn't as alone as he thought he was?
Shen Wei had lived for over 10,000 years: searching, waiting, learning, and keeping the peace. Throughout that time he lost himself a little bit and was just going through the motions as the Envoy and dedicating his time as a Professor to his students. Especially the one Dixing student he had saved that now insisted Shen Wei was a savior to them all. Every thing was fine until he came across a corpse, a student hanging from a cord, and a familiar face in a window.
A re-write of Guardian with Shen Wei whump and Zhao Yunlan paying closer attention and stubbornly insisting on taking care of Shen Wei. Also a new take on the Hallows, what if they got annoyed at the unsuccessful time loops and decided to help out a bit by giving Shen Wei premonitions? What of all those close calls SID had were only close calls because Shen Wei knew they were going to happen before it actually occurred?

Summary
Zhao Yunlan returns from the past to find that Shen Wei has forgotten their future. The last memory Shen Wei has is 10,000 years old, and he only recognizes one person. The wormhole is closed, the Hallows are no help, and Ye Zun’s brainwashed army is flooding through the portal between worlds.
While a Dixing General is at least as prepared to turn back a rebel invasion as a university professor, Shen Wei has no idea how to relate to his colleagues or his friends... least of all Zhao Yunlan, who has no time to mourn the life they had when everything they know now is under threat.
