Post Gauda Prime, Avon feels too guilty to live, Blake feels guilty when he accepts a plan to help Avon assuage his guilt by a lengthy penance amounting to dehumanizing isolation.
There's angst and anger, self-sacrifice and feelings of betrayal along the way, but there is also an eventual happy ending.
