Summary
A year after Vecna's defeat, things have finally returned to normal. Well, aside from the lingering nightmares. And the fact that Mike is in love with his best friend and it's getting increasingly harder to keep that to himself.
But it's all going to be fine. They're going to go to Steve's parent's heretofore undiscussed lakehouse, spend two weeks slow-roasting in the Indiana sun, and be normal teenagers for once. Really, the least they deserve at this point is a little summertime relaxation.

Summary
Lucas reached for Max's hand, so Mike grabbed onto El's. Lucas called Max beautiful, so Mike dutifully repeated it. Lucas took Max on dates to the movies, so Mike… look, it wasn't his fault that Dustin was at camp, and El couldn't go places with a lot of people, and so he ended up sitting next to Will in the dark theatre.
It wasn't a big deal. In fact, it was so totally not a big deal, that Mike made up a list of rules to keep it that way.
Or- I realised that Halloween was only a few days before s5 v1, and thought it would be cute if that's when mwtfdydg happened

“Did I do something wrong?” Mike questions, mouth twisted in a frown, eyes less wide than they were a few moments ago, sleepiness gone. His arms stay at his sides, although his fingers fiddle with his sleeves. “What did I do wrong?”
Will frowns back. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Mike doesn’t look like he believes him. Will doesn’t blame him. “Then why do you keep leaving?”
The world ends, and then some. Mike and Will find each other again, amidst the debris and distance.

"I want you to tell me something you haven't told anyone before."
Will took a moment to process the words, but all he could come up with to say in response was, "What?"
"These confessionals always sucked because I knew no matter what I said, I was being judged," Mike explained. "There wasn't someone I trusted on the other side." There was a beat where, for a second, Will was sure he could hear Mike's heart beating. "But we trust each other." It wasn't a question. Will liked that. Liked that Mike still thought of him that way. "So maybe if we just lay it all out on the line, not having to even see the other... maybe we'll get back to how things were."
"But... we already know all of each other's secrets." Will was sure his tone gave away the obvious lie.
"Not anymore."

Will and Mike are tasked with scoping out Roane Cemetery Church for clues, and the awkwardness between them can't be ignored any longer. Unsure of where they stand, Will and Mike decide to each choose three things to share with each other that no one else knows. The last one could change everything.

Mike was looking at him like he hung the moon and stars. The way he'd always looked at him, like he was something worth wanting.
"For delaying the biggest mission of our lives to open up to everyone?" Will went for humour, tried to deflect and give Mike an out.
"For taking back who you are from him. He doesn't get to own this part of you, or get to hold it over you any longer."
