“Sorry. What’s your name?” Kara lowers the last bite of her hot dog. “You know mine, it’s only fair.”
The woman shifts her weight, pursing her lips and seeming to think about it. “I’m Lena,” she offers at last, watching Kara’s face.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Lena.” Kara gives her an enormous smile.
“Likewise.” Lena smiles back, then takes a breath. “I hope this isn’t the last time we talk.”
“Me, either.”
Kara watches Lena go, sees her pause at the street, then dart across awkwardly in her heels. “Lena,” she says to herself, trying it out. She goes to take another bite of her hot dog and feels the ketchup drip from her thumb, dropping into her lap.

Kara Danvers is in a slump: she’s just been fired from her job as a producer for a local news show, and she can’t get a single call back from prospective employers. And she’s taken aback, because it shouldn’t be this obvious. She shouldn’t know. No one was supposed to know. Well, Lena had just found out herself, with the warmth that took over her chest last night when Kara didn’t think twice before hugging her by the waist and tugging her closer.
Sometimes, being ignorant was the best way of self-preservation. She lusted the moments before she knew, she lusted being able to put those thoughts back, to just be. Because now that she knew, she couldn’t unsee it.
There was something on Eliza’s knowing smile that almost made it too easy blurting out the truth, blurting out that love was too little of an emotion for what she felt. But she knew better than that.
“She’s my best friend.” The words sound wrong to her ears, they taste bad on her tongue. “Of course I love her.”

Summary
Poplar, London. 1963.
Patsy has returned from Hong Kong following her father's death. After a passionate reunion with Delia, they set about rebuilding their lives together. Delia begins her journey as a midwife, helped on by Val and Phyllis. Nonnatus house employs a new midwife in Lucille. Trixie suffers a relapse and both Patsy and Delia are battling with their own health, mental and physical - but seeking help is never easy. Everything comes to a head when Patsy suspects abuse within a family and Nonnatus House is shaken by a tragedy.
A fic based loosely off series 7 if Patsy and Delia were to not disappear and travel the globe. Written as close to the style of the show and its characters as possible with some original characters and plot twists to be had along the way.
EDIT: I'm so sorry this fic has been abandoned. I aim to return to it someday. Until then, I hope you can enjoy reading knowing I was going for an eventual happy ending!
