Either Heaven or Hell must hate him, because why is Charlie stuck out the front of the black-tie Year 12 formal, waiting for Isaac, at the same moment that Nick has just stepped out of his mum’s car, rushing and putting up an umbrella and not looking where he is going. He fetches up against Charlie, and his arm lifts automatically to raise the umbrella over them both.
Charlie lifts his chin in response.

Tao has agreed to be Charlie's plus one for his annual work party. It is going to be boring, and there is going to be a lot of noise, and at least some of that noise will be Charlie sighing over his work crush, unattainable primary school teacher Nick Nelson, who has been seconded to develop the primary curriculum and ruin Charlie’s life. Tao Xu, best friend, flatmate, successful photographer, and reluctant listener, feels like he knows everything there is to know about Nick Nelson. (It turns out that this is not, in fact, the case.)
Tao is a good friend, which is why he is going to Charlie’s boring work party, and all he can hope is that the free food and beverages will make up for him having to witness embarrassing, intense pining.
Tao talks to Charlie’s work crush and everyone has a fresh moment of discovery. I am excited to post this for the countdown!

Charlie will always be there to comfort his flatmate and best friend after a break up.
The last line of defence against Nick’s storm of break up depression is Charlie himself. He flips open the duvet and inserts himself into the cocoon, sitting to one side his flatmate, comfortingly close. Nick adjusts his knees and stretches an arm to tug the blanket over Charlie’s shoulder. His head is turned away from the TV now, his gaze fixed on Charlie.
“Charlie,” Nick sighs.

A car approaches ahead of them and Nick is forced to shift his hand from Charlie’s thigh while he pulls into a passing place. He kisses Charlie with the car stopped, the engine running; his eyes flicker closed, the other car passes, Charlie pulls away. Sudden light turns the inside of his eyelids blinding red.
Nick opens his eyes.
He’s in the car, in the passing place, facing the other way. The wrong way. The passenger seat is empty, lit by the harsh hot sun. The dash clock says ten to five.
“Nick…”
“Yeah?”
“I think we’re in a time loop.”
Nick exhales deeply with relief. “Oh, fuck. I’m so glad it’s not just me.”
“So am I.”
“So… how do we get out? Are we just going to be here forever?”
