Summary
Charlie is struggling to afford his education. When he's approached by law enforcement to become an informant about the potential crimes of one of his uni classmates, Nick Nelson, he jumps at the chance to line his pockets. After all, Nick is the youngest son of French notorious crime boss, Stephane Fournier -- surely he knows everything going on inside his father's business, and he must be just as crooked.
Nick Nelson wants nothing to do with his father, and wishes that everyone would stop assuming he's just like him. What he really wants is to become a primary school teacher, to guide children on the right path before they're "ruined" by their parents. Like he was by his father.
But what will happen when Charlie and Nick meet, and their first impressions of each other are so very different from reality?

The fic could probably work as a standalone, but reading The Rules We Fake first will definitely offer a better experience.

Charlie lingers in the locker room long after all the other boys have left, almost as if he doesn’t want any of them to see where he’s going, and that more than anything convinces Nick that he’s got to do something to find out what’s wrong. So when Nick leaves the locker room, he turns a corner and then hovers there, waiting to see which direction Charlie goes.
He’s not sure what he’s expecting—maybe that Charlie’s sneaking off to see Ben again? But Charlie doesn’t meet up with Ben. He doesn’t meet up with anyone. Instead, he ducks into a broom cupboard and emerges five minutes later in pajamas with a rucksack slung over his shoulders and what looks like a sleeping bag tucked under his arm.
Nick comes out from around the corner. “Charlie? What are you doing?”
