They’ve heard it’s become somewhat of a sanctuary after London was ravaged by the undead. It’s also the last place their sister was known to be alive.
Nick is also looking for sanctuary after losing his brother and only travel companion. He’s not built to brave this world alone, and wants a fresh start. A support system. A family.

All the locations, names, dates and details have been changed to protect the unaware and are entirely fictional.

Try as he might, Charlie couldn’t quite quell his nerves.
He bit at his thumb nail, which was already bitten down more than enough. He pulled his hand away from his mouth, shaking his head slightly as he walked up to the office doors. He’d been inside the building a handful of times now, twice for interviews, and once for his orientation day, but he still checked the sign on the door, making sure he had the right address.
He’d also looked it up on Google maps again too, just in case he somehow forgot the directions. He was well aware of how stupid it might be for him to worry so much but it was his first official full day of work, he couldn’t afford to be late because he somehow forgot what building he was going into. He was also incredibly aware he was catastrophizing but therapy also taught him it was fine to catastrophize, as long as he knew that’s what it was.
He was fine, nothing was going to happen to him, he just had to keep that in mind.
(Or Charlie and Nick are living together in domestic bliss, but when Charlie starts a new job and Geoff retires, he finds himself struggling to stay on track.)

Nick Nelson, newly divorced and raising his five-year-old son Julian alone, returns to his hometown for support and takes a teaching job at his old primary school. He rents a house for himself and Julian—only to discover his new landlord is Charlie, the boy he once secretly crushed on.
Now Charlie has to decide if he can forgive Nick for ghosting him years ago, and Nick must finally explain what really happened.

Charlie lingers in the locker room long after all the other boys have left, almost as if he doesn’t want any of them to see where he’s going, and that more than anything convinces Nick that he’s got to do something to find out what’s wrong. So when Nick leaves the locker room, he turns a corner and then hovers there, waiting to see which direction Charlie goes.
He’s not sure what he’s expecting—maybe that Charlie’s sneaking off to see Ben again? But Charlie doesn’t meet up with Ben. He doesn’t meet up with anyone. Instead, he ducks into a broom cupboard and emerges five minutes later in pajamas with a rucksack slung over his shoulders and what looks like a sleeping bag tucked under his arm.
Nick comes out from around the corner. “Charlie? What are you doing?”
