Miss Miko blew a bubblegum bubble. Expanded it to touch the fine hairs of his cheek. He flinched as it popped, hot breath washing across his skin. She swirled the tattered gum back into her mouth.
“What’d you do, lover boy?” she said, inflection as dead as she’d make him if she continued to be displeased.
“‘Cuz we know you did somethin’,” Miss Muko said, her normally doe-ish makeup seemingly morphing, taking on a predator edge. Her teeth bit down on the stick of her lollipop. “We try to be on your side when we can ‘cuz Momo’s such a dumbass, but we ain’t never seen her like this.”
He swallowed. It stuck in his throat for one painful second.
“…I messed up.”

Two years ago, the Kur came back, their fleet even more vast than before.
Humanity didn't stand a chance - but the yokai did.
